How to Change the Name on Your Electricity Bill

After a purchase or inheritance, the meter should show the correct legal owner. Name change is handled through the official ENC “Change of Name” flow plus a physical file at the sub-division — not through MEPCODBill. Your 14-digit reference number usually stays with the connection; what updates is the ownership record printed on later bills.

Why update the name promptly

Utility bills are widely used as address proof. Leaving a deceased or previous owner’s name complicates banking, reconnection after arrears, and legal disputes. Tenants generally cannot permanently transfer the meter into their name without ownership — the landlord remains the registered consumer.

Step-by-step process

1. Clear arrears

Outstanding dues block processing. Pay through official channels, then keep receipts. Confirm the payable amount on the official statement via the official PITC portal ↗ if needed.

2. Apply on ENC

On enc.com.pk, open Change of Name / Tariff / Load, select Change of Name, choose MEPCO, and enter the existing 14-digit reference number. Fill proposed owner details exactly as on CNIC and upload scans. Save the Tracking ID.

3. Submit the physical file

Print the ENC form, attach attested hard copies, and file them at the sub-division printed on your bill. Ownership changes are legally sensitive; offices expect stamped documents.

4. Pay the name-change Demand Notice

After scrutiny, download the fee Demand Notice via tracking, pay at a designated bank, and complete any upload/office receipt steps. Do not pay facilitators via personal JazzCash/Easypaisa numbers.

5. Confirm on the next bill

When the billing cycle updates, open the official copy via the official PITC portal and check that the printed name matches your CNIC. Timing depends on local processing and the billing cycle — ask the sub-division for the queue rather than assuming a fixed week count.
